WATER ON PAPER |
APPARATUS AND MATERIAL REQUIRED:
- 3 different types of paper
- 3 graduated cylinders
- Water
- Stopwatch
OBJECTIVES:
To compare the rate of water absorption by different types of paper.
PROCEDURE:
- Fill each graduated cylinder with 100 mL of water.
- Tear off a piece of each type of paper and place it in a separate graduated cylinder.
- Start the stopwatch and record the time it takes for the paper to absorb all of the water.
DATA:
CONCLUSION:
The results of this experiment show that paper B absorbed water the fastest. Paper A absorbed water at a slower rate, and paper C absorbed water the slowest.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This experiment can be modified in a number of ways. For example, you could use different amounts of water, different types of paper, or different paper thicknesses. You could also try to control for other factors that might affect the rate of water absorption, such as the temperature of the water or the surface area of the paper.
By conducting experiments like this, you can learn more about the properties of different materials and how they interact with other substances.
