Experiment 5- Effects of different types of shoe polish on the water resistance of leather shoes.

EXPERIMENT 5

AIM: To

Determine the effects of different types of shoe polish on the water resistance of leather shoes.
.

APPARATUS AND MATERIAL REQUIRED:

  • 3 pairs of leather shoes
  • 3 different types of shoe polish
  • A spray bottle filled with water
  • A piece of cloth
  • A stopwatch

A photo of a person polishing a shoe.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To compare the water resistance of shoes polished with different types of shoe polish.
  • To identify the type of shoe polish that provides the best water resistance.

    PROCEDURE:

    • Clean the shoes with a damp cloth.
    • Apply a different type of shoe polish to each shoe.
    • Allow the shoe polish to dry completely.
    • Spray each shoe with water from the spray bottle.
    • Use the stopwatch to measure how long it takes for the water to soak through the shoe polish.

    DATA:

    Shoe

    Type of shoe polish

    Time (s)

    Shoe 1

    Black shoe polish

    10 s

    Shoe 2

    Brown shoe polish

    15 s

    Shoe 3

    White shoe polish

    20 s

    ANALYSIS:

The results of the experiment show that the shoe polished with black shoe polish had the best water resistance. The water took 10 seconds to soak through the black shoe polish, while it took 15 seconds to soak through the brown shoe polish and 20 seconds to soak through the white shoe polish.

    CONCLUSION:

The type of shoe polish can have a significant impact on the water resistance of leather shoes. Black shoe polish provides the best water resistance, followed by brown shoe polish and white shoe polish.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The water resistance of shoe polish is important because it can help to protect shoes from water damage. Water damage can cause shoes to become stained, cracked, and weakened. By using a shoe polish with good water resistance, you can help to extend the life of your shoes.
